Remove Letters and Characters from Text
This tool deletes every occurrence of whatever letters, digits, punctuation, or symbols you specify — nothing more, nothing less. How do I use it?
- Paste or type your text into the main box.
- Type the characters you want removed into the "Letters/characters to remove" field — no spaces or separators needed between them.
- The cleaned result appears below automatically as you type.
- Copy or download it once you're happy with the result.
Is removal case-sensitive?
Yes. Typing a lowercase letter only removes that lowercase letter — the uppercase version stays untouched, and vice versa. Removing "a" from "Banana" leaves you with "Bnn"; the capital letters in a word like "Alaska" would be unaffected unless you also include "A" in the removal field. Want both cases gone? Just include both, like "aA".
Can I remove more than one character at a time?
Yes — every character you put in the removal field gets stripped out simultaneously, in
one pass. Want to strip every digit from a block of text? Type 0123456789. Want
punctuation gone too? Add it to the same field. Order doesn't matter, and repeating a
character twice has no extra effect.
Does it change spacing or line breaks?
Only if you tell it to. Line breaks, indentation, and spacing all stay exactly as you typed them unless you explicitly include a space or newline character in the removal field — in which case every one of those gets stripped too.
Does it handle accented letters, symbols, and emoji?
Yes, it works on full Unicode text, not just the basic English alphabet — accented characters, non-Latin scripts, and emoji can all be typed into the removal field and stripped out just like any other character.
How is this different from Find and Replace?
Character removal deletes every instance of the characters you list, with nothing put back in their place. Find and Replace swaps one string for another. Reach for this tool when you want something gone entirely; reach for Find and Replace when you want to substitute it with something else.
What's this actually useful for?
Common cases: stripping punctuation and spacing out of a phone number before storing it, cleaning stray symbols out of data pasted from a spreadsheet, turning a title into a compact hashtag by removing spaces and punctuation, or clearing out formatting characters left over from a PDF or web page copy-paste.
