Unlike the JPG format it's converting from, PNG uses lossless compression — there's no quality slider here because there's no quality to trade away. Whatever detail survived in your original JPG is preserved exactly in the PNG output, with no additional compression artifacts introduced by this conversion.
Why convert JPG to PNG?
PNG's biggest advantage over JPG is support for transparency through an alpha channel, which JPG has no way to represent. Converting to PNG also matters when you plan to keep editing and re-saving an image — JPG's lossy compression degrades quality a little more with every re-save, while PNG holds steady no matter how many times you edit and export it. PNG also renders sharp edges, text, and line art more cleanly than JPG, which can introduce visible blockiness around high-contrast boundaries.
Will converting JPG to PNG improve image quality?
No — converting a JPG to PNG can't recover detail that JPG's lossy compression already discarded. What it does is stop further quality loss: once your image is a PNG, repeated edits and re-saves won't degrade it any further the way continuing to save as JPG would. Think of it as locking in the current quality level, not restoring an original.
Is there a file size or dimension limit?
Not from this tool specifically — since conversion happens in your own browser rather than on a server, the practical limit is your device's available memory rather than any limit we impose. Note that PNG files are often larger than the JPG you started with, since lossless compression can't shrink photographic detail as aggressively as JPG's lossy compression does.
